Holy Cow - 1 ALREADY!

FFION IS ONE!

Here's Ffion's stats on her first birthday as well as some wonderful things about the baby in our family:

12 month

weight - 17lbs 13oz
height - 27.75 inches
head measures - 17 inches

Ffion falls in the under the 5th percentile for her weight, in the 10th for her height and in the 5th for her head.  Yep, she's still pretty small - wearing 6-9 month clothes fairly comfortably.  For those of you that know big sister Aylish, Ffion's stats are about what Aylish was at between 3-4 months (please note Aylish's percentiles were much higher).

Here's some things to remember about our first year together:

  • she really is small - but we like it
  • beautiful blue eyes
  • great little personality - true red head attitude
  • had ear infections constantly till at 8 months when her tubes were put in
  • after tubes she was a different baby, slept through the night and actually smiled alot
  • nursed longer than any of my other girls (11 months)
  • took the longest to start crawling (10.5 months)
  • LOVES her soother
  • still in her infant car seat at 12 months
  • doesn't like to be tossed in the air (cries like a baby)
  • doesn't like to be hung upside down (ask Carly)
  • likes her mom making loud scary sounds, just not anyone else
  • loves cuddles
  • still bathes in the sink at 1 quite comfortably
  • loves being with her sisters
  • has ALL of her sisters wrapped around her little fingers (she was definitely meant to come last)
  • is ADORED by everyone she knows

We had a birthday party for her on the weekend and here's some pics from the event.

Happy birthday sweetheart - we love you!

a little stunned at the beautiful singing
Mmmmm, cake

A bath to finish off the evening.  What a great day :)

Happy Surprise Anniversary

This year we celebrated our 12 anniversary - 12 great years have completely flown by.  Our good friends Mike & Amelia celebrated their 10th so Richard and Mike planned our anniversary surprise together.  How fun it was.  I love that the even years are up to Richard to plan and I plan the odd years.  That means at least every other year we get to do something more than just dinner and a movie (you rock Richard).

This year we knew we were going somewhere, we just didn't know where.  We ended up spending 5 days in Lakeside MT overlooking Flathead lake (20 mins south of Kalispell).  It was so fun.

The boys did good.  It was brilliant.  We laughed all weeekend, I kid you not - all weekend.

Here's a blurry picture of the cabin we stayed in

Here's some memories of our RSP trip:

  • Furry animals can scare the snot out of you
  • Wait in line and don't be jerks about it
  • 2 Degrees make all the difference
  • Europe Trains is compatible with US homes
  • Taking a running jump onto a bed isn't always advisable
  • Famous Daves is now more famous
  • Stores have great return policies, just ask Amelia
  • Heels are great, just maybe not with stairs
  • Great songs can be interrupted by unsightly stumps
  • I thought everyone could play Bocce Ball - I was WRONG
  • Boys loves flart - a bit too much
  • Danger + rapids + cold water = FUN
  • Planking and Tweeting are for adults too

I can't wait till the next time............plans are already being made :)

Thanks Boys!!!!!

A bit of a rant

Sometimes things BUG me.

Sometimes people BUG me.

Sometimes actions BUG me.

Sometimes I too feel like plastering things all over Facebook for all to read, however, somethings are just better left unsaid and definitely unwritten.

This is my rant.

I'm done.

Worsinton

Confused?  Don't be.  I'll explain.

Worsey + Quinton = Worsinton

We have the greatest friends in the world.  We play together, all the time.  Sometimes Most of the time nothing gets done cause we are too busy playing.  But it's just plain fun.  Late nights, games, road trips, fabulous hotels, trains, meals, desserts, popcorn and of course pina coladas - just to name a few of our fun times.

Here's a snapshot of the kids at West Edmonton Mall on our most recent holiday.  They were headed mini golfing with dads while the moms did some much needed retail therapy with the 2 babies!!!!

It's so fun to find an entire family that just clicks with yours.  At first we thought we clicked because we had kids all the same ages and our husbands have the same sense of humour, but in fact,  Amelia and I have A LOT in common.  We are actually twins, or at least long lost sisters ;)

Get this:
  • I was 20 when I got married, Richard was 22
  • Amelia was 20 when she got married, Mike was 22
  • We were married on July 17th
  • They were married August 17th
  • Our wedding colours were yellow and blue
  • Their wedding colours were yellow and blue
  • I walked down the isle to Pachelbel's Canon
  • Amelia walked down the isle to Pachelbel's Canon
  • My mom and dad's anniversary is August 11th
  • Amelia's mom and dad's anniversary is August 11th
Pretty amazing don't you think?  We think so.

We have already married off girl Rylee & boy Riley and they are both ok with it.

A date will be set upon his arrival home from his mission in 2025.  Msg me your address then for an invite :)

I am grateful for friends.  Friends that lift, laugh and cry with you.

Concerns - at 10 months?

The great comedian Chris Rock once said,

“Fathers, our only job is to keep our daughter’s off the pole.”

Oh dear.

Faith of a little child

This is Rylee, she's pretty cute, we know - she's already promised to a cute boy in town so you can only dream she'll join your family.

Don't worry though, I have more cute girls (pics available upon request)

K, back to Rylee.  So last week Rylee went to the pool with her 2 older sisters for the first time on their own this summer.  They were pretty excited and rode their bikes into the sunshine heading south to the pool (southeast actually).

Anyway, I get a phone call just before they were to come home from the pool.  It was Shannon.  She sounded very worried, I was concerned at the tone of her voice and then she came out with it "Mom, Rylee's lost her glasses".  My first thought was thankfulness that nobody was hurt (should have kept that thought for longer) and then I quickly turned my thoughts to the $300 pair of glasses that were missing.

I headed to the pool (riding my bike into the sunshine heading south).  We searched.  Outside, inside, the lockers, the bathrooms, the changerooms, the showers (no I wasn't perving - though I did look under a few curtains),  even the garbage full of diapers, they were gone.  We checked the lost and found, nothing.  We left the pool without them.  It bothered me pretty much the whole night, if only I had been a bit more like my little girl.

That night, Rylee came and got me as she was going to bed and asked for some help.  She said she wanted to say a prayer to Heavenly Father to help her find her glasses.  It was a simple &  sweet heartfelt prayer.

"Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for letting me have glasses so I can see.  Please help me to find them"

That was it, usually we encourage them to say at least 5 thank yous before they ask for blessings but tonight, this prayer is what was needed.  With tears in both our eyes, I gave her a hug and tucked her into bed.

8am the next morning the phone rings - - it's the pool - -
they found her glasses.

I was relieved.  She was sooooo excited (and a better person than me) she promptly got on her knees to thank her Father in Heaven for his help - what an example.

Thanks Rylee for being an example to me.  Love you xx

Blog Worthy

I've been rather slack these past couple of months, not that there hasn't been a huge amount of bloggable stuff to blog about, but I've just been so busy doing that bloggable stuff I haven't found the time to blog.  Phew, does that make sense?

Anyway, I just had to share what happened to my dear family this past weekend while on a shopping trip to Costco.  It was one day never to be forgotten.

As we were heading out of the store with our cart of non-essentials essentials from Costco on Saturday, we had no idea what was just about to happen.  The girls were arguing over who got to take the receipt and hand in to the worker at the door to get stamped.  Aylish jumped off the front of the cart where she had been riding and the wheel hit her toe - ripping her toenail right clean off.  There was blood, and tears, and more blood and lots more tears.

We were dealing with the injured foot when all of a sudden I heard a bunch of noise, I turned around I saw Shannon laying on the floor.  I heard the thud, but didn't realize that that was the sound of my little girls head hitting the concrete floor.  She had fainted and was having a small seizure.  As I held her and called for help a wonderful nurse who saw it happen came running and took over her care.  I just sat over Shannon, holding her hand and calling her name.  It was probably the scariest thing I've had to deal with.  Here poor sisters sobbing as the events unfolded.  Watching your child in such a state is something I don't wish on anyone.  She was out for about 20 seconds, though it seemed a lifetime and then slowly came around. I was so thankful for the fantastic lady who came to our aid, I only wish I got the opportunity to thank her, she left before I even realized she was gone.

It was scary, for all of us.  Except maybe Shannon who can't remember any of it - all she could say when we got her up on a chair was "this is so embarrassing".

As everything started settling down, I felt hot, clammy and sick - sure sign that I too was about to faint - luckily I'm older and recognized the signs and sat myself down.  As I sat down I looked up to see Rylee - pale, hot and clammy complaining she didn't feel well.  She too was pulled to the floor beside me and handed a sick bag.  What a sight.

May this be a once in a lifetime experience (thanks Keira for the pictures).

I had explained to Aylish that it wasn't possible for me to find her toenail so it could be fixed, despite her request.  She will have to wait for 3-6 months for a new one, then we'll get them painted again, all 10 of them.  For now, she's just loving the 9 she has.  Shannon is taking it easy for a few days while she recovers from her concussion.

As the Worsey trauma unit left Costco and climbed into the van, just to put the icing on the cake, Richard sat on his glasses and broke them.  He was feeling left out of the action I guess.

I am thankful for my family and for the blessings my Heavenly Father has given me and continues to give me.

Day Three :( :(

Day 3

Still not taking fluids.  Managed a few sips of slurpee.  By this point I think she's had 1/2 a juice box and 1/8 cup of slurpee since coming home, NOT GOOD.

Thanks to Aunt Dianne and Uncle Ron who were superstars.  They unselfishly helped out every day, with whatever we needed.  I write this with tears in my eyes, I truly feel blessed to have them close.  Thank you for loving me, and my family.

The Pediatrics unit from the hospital where the girls had their surgeries called just before lunch to do a post op follow up.  Ffion was doing great, so happy. I ran through the events of the past day and a half with Aylish and they raised a red flag and said she needed to go to the hospital asap.

Dr Greg Smith (our family doctor) was on call that day, he's so fabulous.  He discovered poor Aylish had an infection in her throat.  Poor kid.  We went home with a prescription and hoped that she would start feeling better soon.

She got worse as the day went on.  The Pediatrics unit called back to follow up with our hospital trip. Aylish still was not drinking, her eyes were sunken, she was difficult to wake.  I was WORRIED.  They immediately called Dr Smith and explained their concerns.  They called me back and gave me 2 options:  bring her into Lethbridge to be admitted or take her immediately to ER in Raymond.

We went back to see Dr Smith.  He gave her a shot of morphine, she puked, and puke again and one last time and then fell asleep - away in lala land with herself and her morphine (I wished I could've had a shot of it).   An hour later she still wouldn't take as much fluid as we wanted so they put her on a drip.

We spend a few hours of worrying, but we knew she was in good hands.  After the fluids were done, they told us we could go home for the night.  Leaving her shunt in from her IV (just in case) we went home.

Night 3:  Bed at 9, meds at midnight and then again 4am.  Slept through until 9am.....bliss.

Day Two :(

Day 2

They did warn us in the hospital that day 2 would be worse for Aylish than day 2......not sure why they keep them there when their throats are frozen and send them home for their 'worse day' with some tylenol and codeine......hmmm......I'm still wondering......

She tried so hard to eat and drink - here's lunch:

And then lunch went in the fridge, completely untouched.

Not taking any fluids and fighting mommy with meds, she starts to deteriorate.  Worry sets in.

Night 2 - Fell asleep at 9, meds at 11pm.  3am fever of 103.4F and shakes.  Very scary.  Mom stays up holding her while dad wakes every half hour to cool the cloth on her forehead.  Mom falls back asleep from 6:30 till 7 when alarm rings to get kids to school.

Surgery Week - Day One

This week Aylish and Ffion had surgery on the same day.
May 4th 2001
A big day for the Worsey family - tonsils and adenoids out, tubes in and let's not forget one broken finger.......

Mom felt like a real winner having sent Rylee to bed the night before after she got hut playing with Keira, crap - it was actually broken!  Thanks to Aunt Dianne for taking care of my neglected, purple handed, bruised, swollen, broken boned child,
and again I'm SOOOO sorry Ry xxxxx

Here we are day 1:
Pre-op.

Aylish was sick at Kalia's house once and borrowed some jammies to come home in.  These are called her I AM SICK jammies - hence she wore them to the hospital (they are washed and ready to be returned....again).

She was VERY excited to get her tonsils and adenoids out, though, having come out the other end, I think she might have changed her mind on that one.  Here's both of them happy and innocently ready for the day.

Gotta love the hospital jammies, Ffions were slightly big and Aylish's one size fits all underwear (you know ladies, the ones we get post delivery, yup, those)  left her less than impressed with her wardrobe for the day.  Still they were excited to be there.

Until.....

They took them away, here's Aylish just before they take her from me, now realizing she going without me, the apprehension sets in.

There goes my little girl crying screaming down the hall to the O.R.  (insert mommy shedding tears here)

Ffion had come out of her surgery already and was at first VERY upset with it all but after her 1.5 hours of crying and screaming she settled down.  The Doctor said she had never seen so much pressure and build up behind a baby of that age's ears (she's nearly 8 months).  Her poor little ears drained yucky fluid and blood for a couple of days, poor munchkin.

When Aylish had her tubes in last year you might remember that she came out of the surgery happy and smiling......not this time.

With her throat frozen and some of the anesthetic worn off she tucks in......mmmmmm

We left the hospital and headed home, if I had known then what I know now, this step would have been missed....at least till another day.

Night one - no sleep, up every 20-30 minutes with Aylish who refused to drink or take any of her pain meds =
VERY LONG NIGHT.

Precious Moments

Not sure when or who took this picture of Daddy and his baby girl, but I love it.

Simply beautiful, beautifully simple.

Confessions of a Doubting Mom

Confession time.  A few months ago Rylee said to me that she was having problems seeing things and her eyes were very blurry.  I completely dismissed it (oops, bad mom) and thought she was only saying it cause one of her best friends wears glasses.

I WAS WRONG!

We took everyone in to get their eyes tested last month and poor Rylee is +6.75 in her right eye - pretty much blind!  They did some extra tests on her eye and it turns out it doesn't even try to focus [that point was made just to make me feel worse I'm sure].  Now we're working on re-training her brain to use the right eye to try and correct things.  Her left eye is only a +2.25.  They gave her a lesser prescription for that right eye in the hopes that the brain recognizes that there is actually an eye there that isn't doing it's job.  Right now it's devoting little attention to it.  OOOOPPPPSSSSS!  Fingers crossed it works.

Anyway, yesterday we picked up her glasses and she is loving them.

Rylee - "the best part is that I can just see things now, like normal people I think"

Moral of the story - get your kids eyes checked (ages 3+)!

May her next 6 years of life be less of a blur :)

Soon, real soon

I know I've been pretty crappy at blogging recently - life has been full of busyness - I will be back, promise.

For now, enjoy my favourite picture of late!
